Advanced Insurance Adjuster Training

The Advanced Insurance Adjuster Training Course is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the skills necessary to enter the field of Insurance Claim Adjusting. Upon graduation, students will have a thorough knowledge of the insurance industry as a whole and the skills needed to handle a claim from inception to completion. Additionally students will be prepared to seek Licensure as a Texas All Lines Insurance Adjuster. This course provides an intensive study of claims procedures with real world experience in actual claims adjusting.

INS 101: Insurance Basics
Insurance Basics is an introductory course designed to familiarize students with the insurance industry as a whole. Students will become familiar with insurance terminology, insurance regulations, the elements of a legal contract and the distinct characteristics of an insurance contract. Students will also learn Insurance Policy structure and common policy provisions as well as Texas laws, regulations and required provisions under said law. During the Insurance Basics class, students will become familiar with the role of the adjuster. Students will be educated about the basics of ethical concepts, such as authority, fiduciary responsibility, consumer protection, license suspension and legal issues. They will learn about claims reporting to include claim investigation and documentation of events. Students will also be trained in claims adjustment procedures to include settlement procedures, subrogation procedures and alternative dispute resolutions. Graduates of INS 101 will understand the insurance contract and will be able to identify and analyze the basic parts of an insurance policy. They will be able to describe how the policy provisions are applied to resolve coverage issues. They will further be able to examine policies and other records to determine insurance coverage. Graduates will be able to distinguish between the agent’s and the claims adjuster’s roles in the claims process. They will collect evidence to support contested claims in court and prepare reports of findings from all investigations.

INS 102: Principles of Property Insurance
Principles of Property Insurance will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to appraise and adjust a loss that comes as a result of natural disaster, storm or fire. Students will learn the principles of appraisal, features of the appraisal, the appraisal process and appraisal techniques. Students will be thoroughly instructed in the use of industry standard estimating software as well as being trained in the use of other tools necessary to adjust a claim. Students will receive practical training and experience as they visit actual sites where damage has occurred. Additionally, exhibits and vignettes will be provided on campus to provide students with further learning experiences. Students will become familiar with uniform building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical codes. Graduates of INS 102 will be familiar with and be able to distinguish among the various types of HO forms and their coverages. They will further be able to appraise property damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement. They will go on to prepare insurance forms to indicate repair cost or cost estimates and recommendations. Graduates will analyze information gathered by their investigation, report findings and make recommendations for settlement.

INS 103: Principles of Casualty Insurance
Principles of Casualty Insurance will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to appraise and adjust a loss that is caused by injury to others or damage to property of others. Casualty insurance policies are written to cover losses that are the direct result of an unforeseen accident(s). These losses may include Auto liability insurance for car accidents, Marine insurance for shipwrecks or losses at sea, etc. Some common causes of loss would include Fire, Lightning, windstorm or hail, Explosion, Smoke, Aircraft or vehicles, Riot or civil commotion, Vandalism or malicious mischief, Sprinkler leakage, Sinkhole collapse, Volcanic action and Transportation of property. Students will learn the principles of appraisal of the above mentioned losses, features of the appraisal, the appraisal process and appraisal techniques. Students will be thoroughly instructed in the use of industry standard estimating software as well as being trained in the use of other tools necessary to adjust a claim. Students will receive practical training and experience as they visit actual accident sites and appraise damage at local accident sites, garages and salvage yards. Additionally, exhibits and vignettes will be provided on campus to provide students with further learning experiences. Students will become familiar with all aspects of automotive body repair estimation. Graduates of INS 103 will be able to appraise various types of damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement and to negotiate agreements on cost of repairs. They will go on to prepare insurance forms to indicate repair cost or cost estimates and recommendations. Graduates will be familiar with the general provisions of Commercial General Liability policies, umbrella policies and auto insurance (personal & business).

INS 104: Licensure Preparation
Licensure Preparation will provide students with training and preparation to take and pass the Texas Examination for All Lines Adjusters. Successful completion of this exam is necessary to obtain licensure by the State of Texas as an All Lines Adjuster. Graduates of INS 104 will be able to take and pass this important exam and thus obtain their All Lines Adjuster License.

INS 105: Claim Adjustment Intensive
Claim Adjustment Intensive will provide students with an intense overview of the claim adjustment process. Students will be required to satisfactorily complete simulated estimates in order to complete the class. This class will give students real world experience in actual claim adjusting. Graduates of INS 105 will go on to complete claims using industry standard estimating software.
